Winnemucca, NV

Winners we were not. But that’s not the point. My impression is that I would not move to Utah because of all the rules and I would not move to Nevada because of the complete lack of rules. Nevada (even north NV some 500 miles from vegas) is what you might expect: casinos and liquor stores and tourists. We did meet one local, but he’s been living in a motel for a year. I wouldn’t call that roots.

So we arrived and stayed in our little tent in an RV park on the fringe of town. Then we got into our finest threads and stepped out on the town. We had real Mexican food in a little shack off main street and proceeded to Winners Casino where the beer is free, but the slots are tight. We spent most of our time playing roulette and craps and betting heavy on the 5,10,8. 5,10,8 turns out to be lucky in love, but not so lucky in Winnemucca. However, I can roll some mean dice and I hit numbers for good while before losing it all back. It was a nice break to wear real clothes and go out on the town for a bit. All in all, we had a blast! And I had the fever real bad the next day; begging Bob to stop at gas stations with slot machines and trying to find lotto tickets. Lucky for our trip fund, there is very little in NV before you hit Oregon. Ahhhhh…… Oregon.

I love your little gambling habit. Winnemucca, the brief stop on "the loneliest road in American."
