We left Redwoods and California early on Tuesday morning. We drove north along US 101 (the pacific coast highway) and watched the scenery. North Carolina has done a good job maintaining public access to the ocean and its beaches, but Oregon seems to have gone further and prohibited private use of the coast. All along the coast there is public beach access, parking, campgrounds and viewpoints. The coast is strewn with rock outcroppings and sheer cliff drop-offs into the ocean. At the water there are tide-pools and beaches with either gold or black sand.
We worked our way up the coast about ½ way through Oregon to Cape Perpetua Scenic Area (http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/siuslaw/recreation/tripplanning/capeperpetua/index.shtml) and set up camp. We are staying here for three nights. There are many trails and it is about ¼ mile to a great beach. From our camp, we can hear the stream that runs alongside along with the surf in the background. We walked down to the beach and snapped some photos. Tonight we are going to go over after dinner to watch the sunset (which isn’t until after 9:00 here).

Iam loving the stories and the pictures too. Oregon looks gorgeous. I am a bit curious of your photographs. I have noted several with Bob and Christine but no Deefer. Could it be she has taken up a new career as travel photogragher for the "Big Adventure"? Either way it always brightens my day to head to the blog. FOTB
